CBD-infused gin launches in the UK

Muhu, a CBD-infused gin, is due to be launched in the UK next month by young entrepreneur Sally Wynter on a shoestring budget of just £1,300.

Aimed at millennials, the sweet hibiscus flavoured gin is infused with CBD, the non-psychoactive component of cannabis said to ease inflammation and aid relaxation. Imported from Canada, the CBD is cultivated from organic hemp and is colourless and flavourless.

“It’s taken a huge amount of trial and error, but after numerous attempts I finally have the perfect concoction – a delicious floral gin with the excitement of added CBD,” said Wynter, who is looking to release a range of on-trend spirits brands.

“I looked at the spirits market and despite gin acting as a catalyst for experimentation with flavours and colour, we haven’t seen anything truly innovative. Muhu is looking to branch away from the traditional, provenance driven brands,” Wynter said.

“CBD is something I’ve been adding to my cocktails for the past year. It makes me feel more relaxed mentally, but also in my body and muscles,” she added.

Named after a beach shack on the west coast of Thailand, the inspiration for Muhu came from wanting to capture the sense of freedom Wynter experienced during her travels in Asia after leaving school.

“It was really liberating. And not just because I didn’t have a set return date or itinerary.

“I felt emboldened to be spontaneous, meet new people and indulge in new experiences – it’s that free spiritedness that I wanted to capture in Muhu,” Wynter said.

The striking label features a wave design created with three printing finishes, including embossed green foil. The purple and green tip their hat to hibiscus and cannabis.

Made in the Midlands and free of added sugars and sweeteners, Muhu is due to go on sale in the UK next month priced at £34.99 for a 50cl bottle.

This isn’t the first CBD-infused gin to launch in the UK – in March Calum Napier of Wee Hemp Spirits launched Canna’B Gin and a CBD-infused rum in Britain.
