Hawksmoor accidentally gives diner £4,500 bottle of wine

A diner at a branch of UK steak restaurant Hawksmoor is quids in after being served a £4,500 bottle of wine by mistake, the venue said.

A server at the restaurant in Manchester, which has nine sites spread across the UK specialising in steaks, accidentally offered up the premium wine – a bottle of Château le Pin Pomerol 2001 – on Tuesday night.

The member of staff was apparently meant to hand the guest a 2001 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande from Pauillac, which sells on the list for £260.

A tweet on the Hawksmoor Manchester Twitter account read: “To the customer who accidentally got given a bottle of Chateau le Pin Pomerol 2001, which is £4500 on our menu, last night – hope you enjoyed your evening! To the member of staff who accidentally gave it away, chin up! One-off mistakes happen and we love you anyway.”

The account followed this up with a photo of the two bottles side-by-side, captioned: “THEY LOOK PRETTY SIMILAR OK!?”

Another user, implying they were the lucky diner, replied to the post, saying: “I don’t know about 4500 quid, but it was nice when we added the lemonade and ice cubes.”

Well I hope the comment to the member of staff was not accompanied by a bill for the difference!
