7 London Wine Week events you don’t want to miss
It’s that time of year again.
The sun has started to shine and London Wine Week is gracing the capital once again this year. Running from 13 – 19 May, the annual celebration of London’s wine merchants, bars and urban wineries will have a hub at Flat Iron Square in London Bridge, open Wednesday – Sunday, featuring a selection of al-fresco wine bars popping up especially for the festival.
More than 75 venues across the capital will be offering £6 wine trios and hosting a variety of events, with some bars also offering a glass of wine and food pairing option. Festival goers can partake in these self-guided Wine Tours, by simply flashing their free festival pass at the bar, which you can download here.

Wine tasting at 100ft
Where: The O2, Peninsula Square, London, SE10 0DX
When: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 2.30pm-3.30pm

What’s better than a wine tasting? A wine tasting with panoramic views of London, of course. Throughout the first three days of the festival, Vins de Provence is hosting a lunch with each course paired with a flight of fragrant Provence rosé wines, which will leave you feeling lighter than air.

Flavours of the East: Wine Pairing Dinner

Some say pairing European wines with Asian food is too great a challenge, but tell that to the guys at Crazy Bear Clubhouse. Amathus Drinks’ head of wine Jeremy Lithgow MW will take guests through a collection of wines from the restaurants list as they are paired with an exclusive five course tasting menu. On the cards for Tuesday’s dinner are wines like Champagne house Lanson’s extra-aged blanc de blancs, a Werner Riesling Schweicher Annaberg Kabinett from Mosel, Languedoc-Rousillon’s Chateau de la Liquiere Cistus Blanc, Pinot Noir from California’s Parker Station, and a moreish Moscatel from Navarra’s Bodegas Ochoa Moscatel.

Arthur Hooper’s Wine List Launch

If you like your wine served up with well-executed, healthyish small plates and staggering distance from London Bridge station, then Borough Market’s Arthur Hooper’s is putting on a do on the second day of London Wine Week to satisfy your needs. The slick-yet-cosy resto is launching a new menu and wine list to coincide with LWW, and is inviting guests to sample some of its more unusual serves on the list and meet the team behind the wine list. They’ve got Nyteminber, they’ve got Mosel Reisling, they’ve got Alsance Pinot Blanc and every colour of Rioja conceivable (well, three).
O’Jos light and soul lounge

If you want a crash course in the most Instagram-friendly drinks trends of 2019, then this event taking place on Wednesday has all bases covered. O’jos Light & Soul Lounge in east London pays homage to the hottest format in retail: cans. Tinnie fans can get their hands on samples of O’Jo’s rosé and Chardonnay spritzes as well as other box-ticking trendy novelties like “zero-calorie edible mist cocktails and edible, alcoholic bubble machines.”

Try-Before-You-Buy 19 Crimes

You may have already heard of the true crime-focused label Treasury Wine Estates launched back in 2015. In the 19th century, there were said to be 19 crimes in England that would result in “punishment by transportation”, where convicted criminals were sent to Australia to serve their prison sentences. The crimes ranged from more serious offences like bigamy and stealing to tamer crimes like impersonating an Egyptian, and serve as the inspiration for Treasury’s brand, which also uses augmented reality via a Living Wine Labels app to reveal the stories behind the men and women plastered onto the bottles.
The producer is keen to convert consumers, and is bringing19 Crimes to the event hub’s Garden Bar with two Australian wines, 19 Crimes CHARD and 19 Crimes Red Wine – available by the glass or bottle.
Freixenet’s Prosecco Garden

One of the biggest names in fizz, Freixenet is coming to the LWW hub this week serving a selection from the producer’s sparkling portfolio.
Renegade Winery’s Hub Pop-Up

Urban wineries are starting to emerge across the capital, and east London’s own Renegade is popping up at the London Wine Week Hub from Wednesday to showcase some of the rule-breaking, anti-establishment wines made at its base in Bethnal Green. The team at Renegade bring in fresh grapes from small family owned vineyards around the UK and Europe to make craft, artisanal expressions that are sold in the likes of Sketch, The Frog and Harvey Nichols. Entry to the bar is free as long as you download your LWW pass.
