Among the wines Walls singled out from Day 1 of Bourgogne Week is Patrick Javillier’s Bourgogne Côte d’Or ‘Cuvée Oligocène 2017, which is on sale at Goedhuis for £195 for a case in Bond.

He describes the wine as having an “intriguing” nose with notes of “violet and almond”. On the palate the wine is “tense and vital, and punches well above its weight”.

Day 2 saw Walls recommend Domaine Jaeger-Defaix Rully Premier Cru ‘Clos du Chapitre’ 2017, which you’ll find at Flint Wines priced at £175 for 12 bottles in Bond.

Walls found the wine to be “gently earthy” and “pierced with bright red berry fruits”, with “a patina of superfine tannins giving shape and length”.

Yesterday, one of Walls’ top discoveries was a 2107 Aligoté from Domaine Perraud, sold through Liberty Wines at £122.64 for 12 bottles in Bond.

Hailing from the Mâconnais, Walls describes the wine as having “a certain wholesomeness, a floral freshness, and a touch of silk on your tongue that would make it a great by-the-glass option:”

2019 marks the fourth year of Bourgogne Wine Board’s (BIVB) annual event, which runs until Friday 11 January.

The event features tastings highlighting the producers and pioneers of one of France’s most notorious winemaking powerhouses.

The tastings give writers, importers, wine buyers and consumers the chance to try the Chardonnays, Aligotés and Pinot Noirs from the latest vintage and uncover wines from lesser-known appellations.
