Executive chef Mark Jarvis has cut ties with Mayfair’s Neo Bistro amid rumours that the restaurant is set to close in the new year.

As reported by Eater, Mark Jarvis is to step away from Neo Bistro, which he opened in 2017, along with former Harwoods Arms ex head chef Alex Harper. The news comes as rumours surface that the restaurant is  set to close in the new year.

Jarvis who started his career at Raymond Blancs  Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in 2005, owns two other restaurants, Stem (Mayfair) and Anglo (Farringdon) where he works full-time in the kitchen.

A statement written on his behalf read: “Effective immediately, chef Mark Jarvis has announced that he is no longer involved as a consultant to Neo-Bistro in Mayfair. The management and staff of that restaurant will continue to operate the site until further notice.”

Inspired by the new wave bistros in Paris, Neo Bistro was the brainchild of Anglo’s Mark Jarvis, who teamed up with Alex Harper, formerly of Michelin-starred gastropub the Harwood Arms, on the project.

It’s dishes are made with seasonal British ingredients and include the likes of cured sea trout with turnip and lovage; Parmesan gnocchi with pumpkin and pickled walnut; duck with cranberry mustard and devils on horseback; and truffle custard tarts with hazelnut.

It’s wine list  is also notable, gaining a ranking on our Wine List Confidential platform, and featuring wines from unsung regions like Georgia and Morocco, as well as Orange Sekt from Moravia, Luxembourgeoise Riesling and German Dornfelder.

Should rumours of a closure prove true, Neo Bistro would join an ever-growing list of restaurants to have bore the brunt of downward trends in eating out, with the cost of living and business rates rising, along with competition in the restaurant sector.

Here are a few of the year’s casualties:
