Dinner by Heston reopens after fire
Dinner by Heston, at the Mandarin Oriental in London, has reopened, six months after a fire forced the closure of the hotel’s restaurants, newly renovated spa and suites.
The restaurants and bars at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London, including the two-Michelin-starred Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and Bar Boulud, as well as the spa, will reopen today. The hotel’s guest rooms and suites will reopen Spring 2019.
In an update on the hotel website it said: “We are delighted to announce that Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Bar Boulud, the Rosebery, Mandarin bar, banqueting and the Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London will reopen on Tuesday 4 December in time for the festive season and our reservations lines are now open. Our guest rooms and suites will be reopening this coming Spring.”
A fire broke out at the newly renovated 181-bedroom, five-red-AA-star hotel in Knightsbridge in June, just a week after the hotel had unveiled a multimillion-pound renovation.
No one was injured in the fire, which is believed to have started when the by-product of welding work landed on the felt lining of a planted wall, setting it alight.
While diners have been eagerly awaiting the reopening of Dinner, the unplanned closure has given chef director Ashley Palmer-Watts and his team a chance to engineer fresh dishes for its eclectic menu.
New dishes include a vegetarian dish of Roast Cauliflower with smoked brown butter, red wine, truffle & Macrows, and Rice & Flesh comprising almond, saffron, veal sweetbreads and smoked eel.
Eggs in Verjuice is a “91-step dessert”, according to Hot Dinners, comprising a chocolate shell filled with verbena and coconut pannacotta on a coffee parfait that sits on a nest of honey and citrus flavoured katafi.
Its iconic meat fruit dish (chicken liver parfait served with grilled bread) has also had a makeover, taking on the appearance of a plum – a departure from its classic clementine appearance – for the month of December, coloured using spiced red wine.
