Chef and restaurateur Marco Pierre White has added a new lager to his The Governor range which will be brewed by Manchester-based brewery and pub operator JW Lees.
Called The Governor Great British Lager, the beer was launched this week at the chef’s Mr White’s English Chophouse in Manchester.
A full-bodied 4.7% ABV Pilsner-style lager, the beer will be brewed by JW Lees, which also makes White’s other beer, a 4.1% ABV bitter.
The Governor name is a reference to the chef’s ex-racer greyhound that was given the name thanks to its impressive performances on the track.
The lager will be stocked at White’s restaurants and JW Lees pubs from the beginning of next year, while ten sites in England will serve the lager this month and it will be nationally listed through Matthew Clark.
White commented: “I wanted something that gave the perfect balance of malt and hop, British in its roots with a familiar Pilsner flavour.”
“Discerning drinkers will be able to enjoy their beer in the knowledge that it was brewed with the best-quality ingredients by a family of brewers in the UK”.
William Lees-Jones, managing director of JW Lees said: “We’ve been brewing beer with Marco since 2011 and it’s a privilege that he has trusted us to collaborate on his new lager.
“With over 60 years’ experience brewing lager, we have the knowledge and passion that Marco was looking for to deliver his perfect lager”.
It has been a busy month of drinks announcements for the celebrity chef, with his Black & White Hospitality group signing a deal to stock a new gin brand created by Eastenders star Adam Woodyatt.
Neat gin, which is the creation of actor Adam Woodyatt and his wife Beverley, will now be available in six of the famed chef’s restaurant brands including Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill, Koffmann & Mr White’s, Mr White’s Chophouse, Marco’s New York Italian, Wheeler’s of St James and Bardolino.
