Piper-Heidsieck appoints new cellar master

Champagne Piper-Heidsieck has appointed Emilien Boutillat as its new cellar master following the departure of Séverine Frerson.

Spotted for his “promising talents” and “proven achievements” at other houses and understanding of sustainable viticulture, Boutillat boasts a rare combination of both youth and experience.

Having previously been cellar master for Champagne Cattier and Armand de Brignac from 2014-2018, Boutillat has also worked at Château Margaux as well as wineries in South Africa, Chile, the US and New Zealand.

Piper’s executive vice-president, Benoit Collard, said: “A fervent admirer of Régis Camus’ oenological approach, and in line with a prestigious series of Cellar Masters, he will be the guardian of the Piper-Heidsieck style and expertise.

“With the nomination of its new cellar master, Piper-Heidsieck confirms both its vision of an authentic Champagne and its intention of preserving the elegance and generosity of its impeccable style.”
