St Austell Brewery appoints chef Jack Stein as ambassador

Cornish brewery St Austell has appointed Jack Stein as an ambassador for its Proper Job IPA which will see the chef host cookery events in partnership with the brand as well as developing a range of recipes and food pairings.

Jack, son of TV chef Rick Stein, has recently released his first cookbook called ‘World on a Plate’ and currently holds the role of chef director of the Rick Stein group.

As part of his new role with St Austell, Stein will host a number of promotional cooking events featuring Proper Job IPA and has also created a series of recipes and food pairings for the beer.

Jack joins younger brother Charlie who works in the wine industry, holding the position of wine buyer at the Rick Stein group and helping to develop a gin for the restaurant group in collaboration with fellow Cornish business Tarquin’s Distillery last year.

His father Rick has previously collaborated with Sharp’s Brewery to create a beer in honour of his Jack Russell terrier and TV sidekick, Chalky, who died in 2007.

Speaking about the new partnership, Proper Job ambassador Jack Stein said: “Having grown up in Cornwall it’s really exciting to be working with one of the most successful and well-known Cornish brewers in the country – especially one that shares my passion for sourcing its ingredients locally, wherever possible.

“Proper Job is a real treat of an IPA and perfect for foodies as it’s big, bold and powerfully hopped. It’s a proper match for those looking for a beer to pair with a flavourful dish or incorporate into their cooking.”

Jeremy Mitchell, St Austell’s director of marketing and communications, added: “We’re delighted to announce Jack as our Proper Job ambassador – a Cornish chef on the rise who shares our values and passion for quality local produce and great tasting recipes.

“Proper Job is one of our most popular beers and has passionate ambassadors throughout the UK. We’re delighted to be collaborating with Jack to celebrate its growing reputation and look forward to exciting times ahead”.

Rick Stein has leased his pub, The Cornish Arms in St Merryn, from St Austell Brewery since 2009. It serves St Austell beers including Tribute, Proper Job, HSB and Trelawny.
