Rousseau leads Bonhams sale

As the London wine auction scene winds down for the summer, Burgundy and first growth claret led a last hurrah at Bonhams’ sale last week.

Six bottles of Armand Rousseau’s 1990 Clos de Bèze and another lot of six bottles of Georges Roumier’s 1990 Bonnes-Mares were the top-selling lots at £14,340 apiece.

Another 12 bottles of Rousseau’s 2006 Chambertin went for £13,265. Also selling well were a couple of cases of 2010 Château Latour which sold for £10,755 and cases of 2000 Latour and 2009 and 2010 Lafite all made in excess of £7,000.

In total, the sale realised £754,159, over half of it being generated by a single collection.

Bonhams Senior International Director of Wine, Master of Wine Richard Harvey said, “In a strong sale, the top 10 lots were all from the same outstanding private collection. The care with which it had been stored – at The Wine Society and under Bond in Wiltshire  –undoubtedly contributed to its appeal and shows the importance to value of keeping wine in first class condition.”
