You can now buy a royal wedding-inspired whisky for $10,000

Whisky distillery Royal Salute has launched a blended Scotch costing $10,000 (£7,400) to celebrate the upcoming marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The limited-edition whisky is made with a selection of the “oldest and rarest whiskies from the Royal Salute collection,” according to the drinks maker.

The oldest whisky in the collection is 55 years old, while other Scotches that have been matured for 33 and 36 years have also been added to the blend.

Once mixed, the whisky was then fully matured in 100% American Oak casks in a tribute to Meghan’s US roots, according to Royal Salute.

It has aroma characteristics of “creamy vanilla and mandarin,” according to the Pernod Ricard-owned brand, with an ABV of 54.5% abv.

“It was a pleasure to create such a special whisky for HRH Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle,” said Sandy Hyslop, Royal Salute master blender.

“By marrying together some of the oldest and rarest whiskies in our portfolio, and ageing them in American oak casks, I have created a harmonious blend to match the coming together of such an iconic couple.”

There are just 70 bottles of Royal Salute Royal Wedding Edition available through a combination of selected retailers and special enquiry, priced at US$10,000.

The news follows a string of drinks launches timed to benefit from royal wedding fever.

Back in March Windsor & Eton Brewery unveiled a limited-edition Royal Wedding beer as pubs and bars across England and Wales are given permission to extend opening hours to 1am over the wedding weekend.

And earlier this month, Graham’s Port announced it will release a 1982 tawny to commemorate the nuptials.
