Abseiling Champagne thief jailed for 20 months

A burglar has been sentenced to 20 months in prison after he abseiled through a skylight and stole 32 bottles of Champagne from a London theatre.

As reported by the Evening Standard, Terence Carroll, 50, has been sentenced to 20 months in prison after abseiling into a London theatre and stealing 32 bottles of Champagne.

On 11 January, using a rope, Carroll managed to enter New London Theatre in Drury Lane, now called the Gillian Lynne Theatre, which is reportedly adjacent to the flats where he lived.

He was subsequently spotted on CCTV carrying the fizz out of the stage door, disguised in bins.

On 12 April he also broke into Bunga Bunga, also in Drury Lane, and was caught on camera making off with some vodka.

Carroll, who has 54 previous convictions, was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court on 14 May for 20 months after pleading guilty to both offences as well as the robbery of a dental surgery.
