You can now buy a burger that may or may not contain a dead tarantula
A US brewpub is taking the humble food challenge to new heights with a burger garnished with an actual oven-roasted tarantula.
Bull City Burger & Brewery in Durham, North Carolina, is celebrating Exotic Meat Month this April, and the pubs website says its staff have “never met a meat we wouldn’t eat.”
Staying true to its word, this month Bull City is serving up a hamburger topped with a crunchy full-grown, oven-roasted tarantula and a side of fries, but whether or not your burger will come with an exotic topping is down to chance.
Adventurous guests are being encouraged to come to the restaurant to sign up for the pub’s “Tarantula Raffle.”
“You will be given a raffle ticket to keep and we will record your name and phone number on our raffle list.”
From there, every day Bull City staff will select a raffle ticket and post the winning number on its Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.
“If your raffle number is drawn, you have 2 days to call the restaurant and speak with a manager.”
The manager then sets up a booking within a week of the winning draw for intrepid foodies to purchase the Tarantula Burger, made with “pasture-raised NC beef burger, oven-roasted tarantula, and spicy chili sauce, with Dirty Fries” for (£21).
Anyone who eats the whole burger will receive a limited-edition Tarantula Challenge t-shirt, and get a special mention on Bull City’s social media pages.
the challenge has proved extremely popular with advebturous eaters, with one guest completing the challenge three times already.
Anthony J. enjoyed his 3rd tarantula burger with us this weekend. He’s also been enjoying EMM with us every year it’s been going on & at 17, has enjoyed every exotic meat we’ve ever offered.
