Another wobble for fine wine in March

The Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 index took another slight wobble in March, down 0.5% which marks the fourth consecutive month of decline for the index.

Although the declines have been small – March’s 0.5% dip is the largest – it does mark a very definite cooling period for the index which has been on a quite extraordinary growth spurt since late 2015.

There was strong movement for Armand Rousseau’s Chambertin from the 2012 and 2013 vintages, which rose 22% and 11% respectively in price, the second consecutive month that the 2012 has seen a strong positive gain.

The 2000 vintages of Haut-Brion and Margaux were also up nearly 3% apiece and Vieux Château Certan’s 2009 was up 2.5%.

The labels going down in March were a more varied bunch including Comte de Vogüé’s 2014 Musigny Vieilles Vignes, the 2006 Comtes de Champagne; 2010 Angélus; 2002 Krug and Beaucastel’s 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape – which was the month’s biggest faller, down 8.3% – after being the best performer in February.
