Confrérie de Tokaj to hold largest ever auction
This April the Confrérie de Tokaj has announced it will hold its largest ever auction featuring wines from the Hungarian region’s leading producers.
The sixth annual Tokaj Auction will take place on 21 April in Tokaj and will feature a record 31 wines from 24 producers worth 70 million forints (€225,000).
The wines being offered, both dry and sweet, are from the 2017 vintage with the lots including barrels and half barrels of dry and sweet wines and 10 litres of Essencia.
None of the wines will be available commercially and all can be bottled and labelled according to the wishes of the buyer.
Gabriella Mészáros, one of the experts behind the selection of the wines to be auctioned commented: “This year we had significantly more wines to choose from, and those that made it onto the Auction list were tasted on several occasions. Potential buyers can bid for fresh barrel lots as well as a smaller number of bottled wines.”
She added, “The 2017 vintage brings us exceptional quality in both dry and sweet wines.”
The money raised at the auction will go towards the development of the entire Tokaj region.
