Tasmania’s Cascade Brewery to get $10.3m expansion
Tasmania’s Hobart Cascade Brewery is to benefit from a AU$10.3 million upgrade, its owner Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) has announced, which will enable it to increase its production by 65%.

While expansing its craft brewing options, the investment will also allow the producer to crease experimental beers for the Australian and Asia Pacific region operations, helping it take a step further toward its goal of becoming a hub for the Asia Pacific region, and one of Australia’s leading craft breweries. The facility will also brew a number of beers from some of the world’s leading craft brands.
“We are thrilled that Cascade will become CUB’s craft brewing hub for the Asia Pacific region. It is testimony to our long-term confidence in Cascade, Hobart and Tasmania”, said Mr Jan Craps, CEO of CUB.
The expansion is also expected to create 20 jobs and secure 86 existing ones, and will be managed by the newly appointed Anita Holdworth, Cascade’s first female brewery manager.
“Anita brings to the role a dynamic passionate leadership style, perfectly suited to the challenge and the opportunity of growing Cascade as CUB’s craft hub”, said Craps.
Anita started her career working in medical genetics research, moving then into microbiology and chemistry before transitioning to manufacturing. Anita currently leads CUB’s team in Australia, which includes chemists, microbiologists, packaging and brewing specialists.
The capital investment will be supported by a $1m contribution from the Tasmania government.
Cub’s brands include the ultra low carb Pure Blonde lager and Carlton Draught. It also produces global brands including Corona, Bulmers, Goose Island and Melbourne Bitter.
