Vinexpo offers a sneak preview ahead of New York show
Vinexpo New York has released a selection of brands to look out for and new products making their first foray into the US market ahead of its show on 5 and 6 March.
Vinexpo New York will take place over two days at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. More than 200 exhibitors representing 18 different countries have signed up to exhibit at the show.
Of these, Wine Australia’s pavilion will be showcasing the diversity of over 65 wine regions in the country growing around 100 different grape varieties. Among the Old World producers is Château Beaubois who is showing off something distinctly on-trend: it is one of only six French vineyards to hold a vegan certification and will be pouring its 2016 and 2017 vegan and organic wines.
Among the new products due to be launched at the show are three wines from Enterprise Greece. Pandora, a range of fruity, fresh and crispy blends of Greek and international grape varieties from Peloponnese; Samos Muscat, a sweet white wine from Samos Island; and Mega Spileo Asyrtiko 2016, from the Asyrtiko grape found in the high-altitude vineyards of Kalavryta.
Joseph Castan Fine Wine will be launching new wines from Château Saint Jean d’Aumières including L’Affranchi 2016, L’Autodidacte 2017, and a rosé, L’Arnacoeur, named after the French film starring Romain Durris and Vanessa Paradis.
Bodegas Costers del Sío S.L. will show its new Cau del Gat 2015 with a feline connecting, paying homage to a cat that always hid in the vineyard when she wanted to give birth.
StraItalian Winemakers will be launching a Langhe DOC Arneis and Barbera d’Asti Superior, a Falaghina Sparkling DOP from southern Italy, and a Chardonnay Toscana, described as “a play of great affinity and balance that waltzes over the taste buds”.
Jeeper Americas will introduce its Champagne Jeeper to the U.S. market for the first time. The name is inspired by the story that at the end of World War II, some GIs gave their Willys MB (jeeps) to Armand Gouttorbe, a young Champagne winemaker, who had helped them during a fight and was rendered unable to walk as a result. The jeep was the only vehicle that could navigate the slopes of the vineyard, thus he was able to continue working, and he named his brand “Jeeper” in honour of the Americans.
Mare Magnum is pouring some new wines under its “Lifestyle Concept” including Allegro Primitivo Organic from Puglia, The Yoga Syrah Organic from Terre Siciliane, The City Runner Cabernet Sauvignon from California, Big Boys Zinfandel from Puglia, and Denim Zinfandel from Lodi, California. Crudo Catarratto Zibibbo Organic from Terra Siciliane, Chocolate Tube Primitivo Alberello from Puglia, and Tonno Catarratto-Chardonnay Organic from Terre Siciliane are part of its “Food & Taste Concept.”
Bordeaux’s rapidly growing Roland Coiffe & Associés SAS will present brands new to the U.S such as Champagne Roger Closquinet; Maison Bel-Air, with its new Margaux vintage 2016; and Château Bouisell from Fronton, a boutique organic winery in the South of France.
Three new products will be showcased by the Chilean Grape Group including the patent-pending Winebeer, combining “the sophistication of a good sparkling wine and the refreshing taste of a beer”; Frutos Rojos, a non-alcoholic juice made from red fruit; and 7Colores, new styles of wine with an unusual range of grapes and original blends.
Azienda Agricola Piandaccoli di Bruni G will launch Vin Santo del Chianti Occhio di Pernice DOC from Caratello, made from Sangiovese, Malvasia Toscana and San Colombano Bianco, produced according to the ancient tradition of the Tuscan Vin Santo.
From Royal Wine comes Bartenura, a line of value wines from Italy, including Bartenura “Blue Bottle” Moscato, and the new Bartenura Sparking Moscato Rosé and Bartenura Limited Edition Demi-Sec. Herzog Wine is releasing Lineage, a line of high-value wines from selected vineyards throughout California: Herzog Lineage Choreograph 2016, Herzog Lineage Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Herzog Lineage Chardonnay 2017 and Herzog Lineage Pinot Noir 2016.
NCCGA of CT, the sole U.S. importer for the Vincenzi Distillery of Turin, Italy, will launch Vincenzi Arancia, an orange aperitif.
Finally, other products that are new to the U.S. market include Bodegas Resalte de Peñafiel’s Resalte Expresion 2012, Champagne de Barfontarc’s Eugene III and De Barfontarc Champagnes, Huerta de Albalá’s Barbazul Seleccion 2015, a limited production of 30,000 bottles, Ignacio Marín Vineyards’ Gabarda Seleccion, Navarro López Family Estates’ Sangría Dale Alegría and Palacios Vinoteca’s Trus Reserva 2014 from Ribera del Duero.
