Struggling to find the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day with your loved one?
While London haunts such as Clos Maggiore might seem like obvious choices for a romantic dinner á deux, not everyone has the budget to match.
We’ve scoured the internet to bring you the cheapest Valentine’s Day meals the UK has to offer this year, from pasties steak-en-croute at Greggs, to four packs of Peroni with a three-course meal in Morrisons.

Greggs & Prosecco for £15
Pastry purveyor Greggs is offering couples the chance to enjoy a romantic candlelit dining experience in selected shops across the UK, complete with a bottle of Prosecco, for just £15 each.
The bakery has teamed up with booking platform Opentable to offer a candlelit four course dinner in its shops for the very first time.
The meal itself will include classy takes on signature bakes. Canapés like seasoned pork and puff pastry sliders, steak and blue cheese “en croute” (read: steak bake) and a katsu tortilla wrap will kick the night off, before diners can select their own “signature Greggs puff pastry parcel”, trussed up with oven roasted spiced potato slices and a salad. To finish couples can get down and dirty with a brochette of mini donuts, all accompanied with an Italian sparkler.
Five Greggs shops are hosting diners next Wednesday, including sites in London, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle and Cardiff. Tables will be available to book from Wednesday 7th February via Opentable.
Wetherspoon’s two dine for £20
Not to be outshone by the pasty-makers, pub chain Wetherspoons has a bargain deal of its own.
Couples can grab a romantic two-course meal at Spoons for the price of Tesco’s own V-day ready meal offer. complete with two drinks. Choose from mains such as the pub’s signature 8oz steak, mixed grill or BBQ chicken melt, followed by decadent desserts from brownies to apple crumble, all served with your choice of a pint of beer, medium glass of wine, or spirit and a mixer.
Those who really want to impress can upgrade to a bottle of Prosecco for just £5. Go on, you’re worth it.
Asda’s dine-in
Over in the off-trade, Asda is leading the discount dine-in deal market.
The Big Four grocer has launched a £15 dine-in deal for Valentine’s Day. Shoppers can buy a starter, main, dessert and a bottle of wine for the reasonable price. This deal is from February 8 – 15. Dishes range from charcuterie and camembert starters to duck breast or beef wellington for mains, while drinks include bottles of Garnacha, Chilean Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio or Cava.
But that’s not all. If you’re really strapped for cash, Asda is even offering a pizza and Prosecco bundle for the bargain rate of £8.
Morrisons’ meal deal
Meanwhile, rival supermarket Morrisons has a £15 meal deal of its own. The supermarket deal includes a starter, main course, and dessert, as well as a bottle of wine or even a four-pack of beers for £15.
Dishes include starters such as Queen Scallop Coquilles Saint Jacques, stuffed mushrooms or smoked salmon risotto, main courses like steaks, lamb shanks or poussin, and desserts from cheesecakes to cheeseboards. The drinks offer, meanwhile, covers Campo Viejo Tempranillo, Brancott Estate Classic Sauvignon Blanc, Grifon Prosecco and Grifon Rosé Spumante, or a four-pack of Peroni if that’s more your style.
McDonald’s romance
Greggs isn’t the only fast food chain getting in on the act. one of McDonalds’ Newcastle sites is advertising a three course meal of “McValentine’s perfection”.
Not much is known about the deal yet, but a spokesperson took to the branch’s Facebook and Twitter pages to make the announcement. Prospective diners should email customerservices@akhanmcdonalds.com to book their place.
You can choose to start your experience at 7pm, 8pm or 9pm and couples will be charged £20 for the entire experience.
An idea from Ikea
Last but not least, Ikea is known for the Swedish meatballs served up in the canteen almost as much as its affordable flat-pack furniture.
This year, The furniture store’s Gateshead branch is offering people the chance to dine on Swedish meatballs with their loved ones for just £15 per couple.
“Are you looking to escape the crowded restaurants this Valentine’s Day,” asks the Tyne and Wear branch’s website.
“Why not try something different and celebrate this Valentine’s Day at Ikea.”
The deal includes a three-course meal plus a glass of wine each.
“You will be seated in an exclusive area of our restaurant where for one night only one of our friendly staff will be on hand to wait on your every need.”
