Marqués de Cáceres named in Wine Spectator Top 100

Rioja wine estate Marqués de Cáceres has scooped a top 20 place within Wine Spectator’s covered Top 100 and is the highest ranking Rioja brand on the list.

The accolade was given to Marqués de Cáceres Reserva 2012, which took the 19th spot on the magazine’s list of its Top 100 Wines of the World.

The reserva is made from 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and 5% Graciano and boasts notes of “black cherry, black current, tobacco and orange peel”.

According to Wine Spectator, the “floral notes are expressive and alluring, balanced by loamy earth and mineral elements that add a savory quality”.

The same wine won a Gold medal at The Drinks Business Rioja Masters competition, which was judged at Ametsa with Arzak Instruction last October.

Marqués de Cáceres was founded by Enrique Forner in 1970. As well as Rioja the company also makes wine in Rueda and Rías Baixas.

Keen to develop the singularity of its terroirs, the bodega has chosen to focus on an ever more rigorous selection of grapes, which are microvinified.
