Sotheby’s Hong Kong is hosting its first auction of 2018 this month, featuring 840 lots with estimated value in excess of HK$26 million (US$3.3 million), the auction house has announced.

The upcoming auction on 27 January entitled ‘Finest & Rarest Wines – Featuring the Spectacular Cellar of a Respected Aficionado’ will see coveted red Burgundy producers including DRC, Rousseau, Leroy and Jayer go under the hammer. White Burgundies from Leflaive, Coche-Dury and Lafon will also be on offer, according to the auction house.

Classics from Bordeaux are in the mix as well including Petrus from the 1960s, and Champagnes from Krug Clos du Mesnil from the 1980s and Salon from the 1970s.

According to its catalogue, it has 59 lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, 36 lots of the grand cru Montrachet and 38 lots of first growths and Petrus before 2000, with vintages spanning more than a century and cover such 20th century benchmarks as 1945, 1949, 1955, 1959, 1982 in Bordeaux and 1986, 1990 and 1999 in Burgundy.

Another highlight is a Yamazaki 50 Year Old Single Malt Whisky and a collection of Macallan from the 1960s and 1970s.

Adam Bilbey, Sotheby’s Hong Kong head of wine, said: “It is with great anticipation that we welcome our first Hong Kong Sale of 2018, Finest & Rarest Wines – Featuring the Spectacular Cellar of a Respected Aficionado. The focus and depth of the very finest domaines from Burgundy is at the core of this collection and does credit to the passion and research put in to building such an extraordinary cellar.”

“This is a sale that celebrates the most sought-after names from the classic regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne and covering iconic vintages [while] Yamazaki 50 Year Old headlines another strong offering of the greatest names in the world of whisky, from both Scotland and Japan,” he added.
