The coffee-flavoured stout, called “1742”, was launched to mark the hospitality firm’s 275th anniversary.

The stout, will be infused with the coffee chain’s Mocha Italia coffee blend, which Black Sheep said will impart a creamy, caramel flavour profile.

Whitbread, which also owns hotel chain Premier Inn, will sell the special edition beer in selected Premier Inn hotels across the UK for the rest of December.

Alison Brittain, Whitbread’s chief executive, said that 275 years of operation is “a huge milestone for Whitbread.”

“It’s an occasion to celebrate our heritage, history of innovation and most importantly, the people – our 50,000 employees – who make it what it is today.”

“As a company that has evolved with consumer tastes and trends, 1742 seemed the perfect way to both tell our story and celebrate.”
