‘World class’ Champagne collection for sale
A collection of top Champagne featuring the likes of 1979 Krug and a bottle of 1857 Yquem will go on sale at Bonhams next fine wine sale in London later this month.
Taking place on 23 November, the sale includes consignments from four “outstanding” British and European collections.
There is a particularly strong consignment of Champagne with a case of 1979 Krug expected to realise £6,000 to £8,000.
There will also be plenty of Burgundy and Bordeaux including: 1999 Henri Jayer Echézeaux, 2005 Jean Grivot Richebourg, 1985 Petrus, 1989 Haut-Brion and a vertical of Latour spanning 1951-2001.
Fans of rare sweet wines will no doubt be intrigued by a single bottle of 1857 Yquem (£7,000-£9,000) and a magnum of Egon Müller’s 2005 Scharzhofberger Trockenbeerenauslese (£9,000-£10,000).
Bonhams international wine director, Richard Harvey MW, said: “Our final sale of the year offers some special lots, perfect for Christmas. We have a wide selection of champagne including the much sought-after Krug 1979, and the exceptionally rare 1857 Château d’Yquem will still be drinking perfectly an astonishing 160 years after it was bottled.”
