Growing thirst for cork among spirits brands

Cork stoppers are becoming an increasingly popular closure in the spirits world, with strong growth in particular from white spirits according to Amorim.

Amorim reports that the trend for premiumisation in both the spirits and craft beer categories has fuelled the interest in cork stoppers.

“Consumers are looking for new experiences, and cork is a key driver of this trend, since it guarantees both a superior seal and is viewed as a sign of class,” said a spokesperson for Amorim.

“By allying cutting-edge technology, innovative design skills and premium quality cork, Amorim’s Top Series is a key force in the powerful trend towards greater use of capsulated cork stoppers worldwide,” they added.

Seeking to capitalise on this newfound thirst for cork among spirits producers, Amorim developed its Top Series of stoppers tailored specifically for a client’s requirements using ecologically friendly materials.

Following major research, Amorim recently unveiled the Whitetop stopper – a premium cork closure solution specifically designed for white spirits.

Among the Tequila brands to have embraced cork stoppers are Patrón and Don Julio, while vodka producers Chase and Belvedere, and gin brands Hendrick’s, Elephant and Caorunn, have also embraced the closure.

According to Amorim, craft beer brands are also getting in on the act.

“Craft beers are increasingly opting for cork stoppers due to their superior sealing performance and packaging that clearly distinguishes craft beers from mass market beer brands,” said a spokesperson for Amorim.

According to Amorim, in several countries in Asia cork offers the additional benefit of preventing counterfeit spirits entering the market. Amorim currently exports to over 100 markets.
