Worries For Whitbread
Disappointing results from the leisure group Whitbread.
Disappointing results from the leisure group Whitbread, owner of the Beefeater, Pizza Hut and TGI Friday’s chains, among others, confirmed market fears of a drop in consumer confidence.
The company’s full-year results, while in line with expectations, demonstrate a significant drop in the fourth quarter as trade in the group’s pub restaurants slowed down.
Shares in the company dropped 4.9% and had a knock-on effect in the market as other pub-related stocks also slid. The results were described by one fund manager as “seriously worrying.”
