Porto Cruz unveils heritage Ports for anniversary
To celebrate its 130th anniversary, Port house Gran Cruz has released an old tawny Port as a travel retail exclusive and a very old tawny made with wines from the 19th century.
The Gran Cruz Very Old Tawny
‘Cruz Heritage’ is a blend of the best tawny Ports of the last four decades while the ‘Gran Cruz Very Old Port’ (pictured) is likewise a blend of exceptionally old tawny Ports, including wines produced in the 19th century before the arrival of Phylloxera, as well as other wines from over the life of the company.
Cruz Heritage was launched at this year’s TFWA show in Cannes while the Very Old Port, of which just 250 bottles have been produced, was given an even grander introduction at the Palacia da Bolsa in Porto towards the end of September.
The wine was poured for the first time at a grand dinner, hosted by Porto Cruz’s owners Jean-Pierre and Edith Cayard and attended by the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
With food prepared by renowned chef Miguel Muller de Castro e Silva, guests were also treated to a performance by one of the country’s leading Fado singers, Katia Guerreiro.
The launch of Gran Cruz’s own very old tawny follows in the footsteps of other houses such as Graham’s and Taylor’s and underlines the growing demand for rare and special Port that now exists worldwide.
