Sotheby’s expects £2m haul from first winter sale

Sotheby’s first fine wine sale of the autumn/winter season is expected to realise as much as £2.4m with rare Burgundy, claret, Champagne and Scotch all going under the hammer.

Taking place in London on 20 September, the sale will feature 909 lots and is estimated to achieve £1.9m to £2.4m.

The lead consignment at the sale features an array of classic Bordeaux from the Left and Right Banks, especially from the 2000 and 2005 vintages. Particular highlights include Jeroboams of Mouton Rothschild 2000 and 2005 Petrus and Lafleur.

It also boasts a fine Burgundy collection including Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s La Tâche, Bonnes Mares and Musigny Vieilles Vignes from de Vogüé, various wines from Hudelot-Noëllat and Marquis d’Angerville and Super Tuscans from Sassicaia and Ornellaia.

A second consignment features more large format Bordeaux and Burgundy, principally from the 1980s, as well as old Champagne and Port including: a Jeroboam of 1975 Bollinger, Krug 1988 and 1990, magnums of 1990 Salon and parcels of Taylor’s and Fonseca 1977 vintage Port.

Elsewhere, there are lots of Dujac and Château Rayas (1989 and 1974), more first growths, other claret and Burgundy.

Finally, the sale will also see a bottle of The Dalmore’s ‘The 12 Pointer’ 62-year-old Scotch go under the hammer with a pre-sale estimate of £40,000-50,000.
