Molson Coors aims for zero landfill waste

North American brewing giant Molson Coors has released a new sustainability strategy, which includes aiming for zero landfill waste at its major facilities.

Included in the company’s first ‘Our Beer Print Report’, the sustainability strategy lays out numerous goals to be achieved by the end of 2025.

The brewer says it has already managed to create zero landfill waste at 13 sites as of the end of 2016 and is “well on its way” to reducing waste at its major facilities as well.

President and CEO of Molson Coors, Mark Hunter, said the strategy was a way for the brewer to “raise the bar on beer, with a series of aspirations that will help shape our company, change behaviours and set industry standards.”

In the report the company also committed to creating “more impactful” programmes to reduce alcohol abuse and deliver more nutritional labelling as well as improve water use efficiency by 22% across its breweries while also improving the water efficiency in its agricultural supply chain and malting operations by 10%.

It is aiming for a 2.8hl/hl water-to-beer ratio as well as to reduce carbon emissions by 50% within its own business and by 20% across the subsequent distribution and after-sales service chain.

“Doing business the right way has been core to who we are for generations. And given this new chapter in our company’s long history, we now have even greater responsibility to make a positive impact on the world,” said Kim Marotta, global senior director of corporate responsibility at Molson Coors.

“Our new sustainability strategy reflects our broadest set of goals to date – a comprehensive, long-term plan that will put us on the leading edge as we look to 2025.”
