Billionth bottle leaves Swedish plant
"Since the first bottle was shipped to the US in 1979, a billion bottles have left the plant.
On Monday 22nd March at 10.30am, the 1,000,000,000th bottle of Absolut vodka, crowned with a golden cap, left the bottling line in Åhus, Sweden.
"Since the first bottle was shipped to the US in 1979, a billion bottles have left the plant. That’s an incredible figure. If you put all those bottles in a line, they would circle the earth – two times," said Krister Asplund, vice president of manufacturing at V&S Absolut Spirits.
Last year shipments of Absolut increased by 7.7%, reaching a whopping 72.5 million litres.
