Brewers fail to hold ‘p*ss up in a brewery’
Nottingham’s Black Iris Brewery was unable to host its ‘p*ss up in a brewery’ after failing to obtain the appropriate licence in time.
Black Iris’ ‘piss up in a brewery’ became ‘piss up near a brewery’ when it decamped to the local pub.
Succumbing to quite possibly the most ironic mishap in the trade, Black Iris Brewery still went on to hold the event, changing the name to ‘piss up near a brewery.’ They were assisted by nearby Lion Inn who offered the stricken brewers the use of its beer garden.
In an announcement on its Instagram account and Facebook page, co-owner Alex Wilson announced: “Due to a cock-up we have been unable to obtain the appropriate licensing to host the Piss Up In A Brewery at the Black Iris Brewery this Saturday (24/06/17).”
“However, we have enabled the event to carry on just two doors up the road at the Lion Inn at Basford. They have been kind enough for us to move the event into their beer garden, so I hope you’ll help us repay their kindness by eating lots of burgers!!”
“For those that were hoping to see the brewery, we will be running brewery tours at 2pm and 4pm.”
“We trust this won’t cause anyone too much inconvenience and apologise for literally not being able to organise a piss up in a brewery! We’ll just have to call it ‘Piss Up Near A Brewery’”.
Unsurprisingly, the ill-fated event attracted much mirth on social media, with Instagram user @_stejones commenting: “Hang on, so you literally couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery”.
The irony was not lost on Black Iris who stated that: “We’ve been pissing ourselves at the double irony”.
Despite the locational setback, ‘piss up near a brewery’ was a success with Black Iris’ Endless Summer (4.5% Session IPA using Simoce and Mosaic hops), Divine Elements (6% Mosaic Hopped IPA), Lost Art of Keeping Secrets (8.5% Vic Secret Double IPA (DIPA)) and Black Strap and Bourbon (10% Bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout – a collaboration with Reuben’s Brews and Outpost Coffee Roasters – on pour.
