Napa to star at San Francisco auction

Wines from Napa Valley’s Araujo Estate will be the centre of attention at Bonhams’ next San Francisco auction at the end of the month.

A complete vertical spanning 1994-2007 of Araujo’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Eisele Vineyard in 14 double magnums will go under the hammer on 26 May with an asking price of US$13,000 – $17,000.

One of the first ‘blue chip’ Napa wines the estate was sold to Château Latour’s owner, François Pinault, in 2013.

The rest of the sale meanwhile will feature other blue chip wines from Bordeaux, notably in the shape of 1990 Petrus and 2000 Mouton Rothschild.

Bonhams wine specialist in the US, Erin McGrath, said: “This is an awesome opportunity to collect a legendary wine in a format built for long-term cellaring – and a championed part of Napa history.

“The wines are in excellent condition – they were acquired directly from the winery, and stored in a beautiful custom home wine cellar. The Araujo Estate wines under Bart and Daphne are the best expression of a beloved ‘premier cru’ of California, the Eisele Vineyard.”
