Caskells opens new whisky shop in HK

The co-founders of Hong Kong’s Whisky Festival, Caskells has launched a whisky shop in Tsim Sha Tsui to meet Hong Kong’s “growing curiosity” regarding single malts.

Caskells’ owner, John Rhodes said to dbHK: “Although Hong Kong has a growing curiosity towards single malts – there is still a lot that can be done to inform people of the very wide scope of whisky there is not only in Scotch but worldwide.

“Hong Kong – as with any market – is dominated by some big players with some excellent products but there are also a lot of smaller companies that have similar high quality products, and it is these that we want to bring to the general market.”

Aiming to provide everything from “try before you buy” drams to fully matured whisky ready to be bottled sitting in bonded warehouses in Scotland, Rhodes’ new venture, Caskells in Tsim Sha Tsui’s K11 shopping mall caters to everyone from the casual whisky drinker to the serious enthusiast.

Visitors can take part in aroma workshops and whisky tasting masterclasses as well as having personalised engraving for bottles and glassware – Caskells, in fact, import the Glencairn crystal whisky glass to Hong Kong.

It was also one of the co-founders of the HK Whisky Festival held earlier in 2016 which aimed to introduce Hong Kong to whisky brands rarely seen in the city.

Finally, Caskells has teamed up with the Intercontinental Grand Stanford to bring whisky and chocolate mooncakes to the market with in-store tastings scheduled in the run up to the Mid-Autumn festival happening next month.
