Portobello Road gin to build distillery hotel

Gin brand Portobello Road has announced plans to build a multi-million pound, four-storey “gin mecca” comprising a distillery, hotel and restaurant on London’s Portobello Road.

Co-founder, Ged Feltham outside The Ginstitute, Notting Hill

Set to open later this year, the complex will be set across four floors which will be dedicated to all things gin. Visitors able to take in a gin museum, blending rooms, a Spanish style ‘Gintonic’ bar and restaurant, a traditional gin shoppe bar, a specialist gin shop and, of course, a distillery where all Portobello Gin will be produced.

Taking the gin experience to another level, guests will also be able to book in for the night, staying at one of the hotel’s boutique guest rooms.

The distillery will also become the new residence of ‘The Ginstitute’, a gin experience where visitors are able to create their own unique recipe gin blend, and where Portobello Gin was founded. Located on the top two floors of a 19th century public house on London’s Portobello Road, it is home to London’s second smallest museum and a 30L alembic copper still, named Copernicus the Second.

Portobello Road gin was founded five years ago

It was while launching The Ginstitute five years ago that Ged Feltham, Jake Burger and Paul Lane came up with the idea of Portobello Gin. After nine months of experimentation, the first Portobello Road gin was produced. The new distillery complex will allow the trio to expand the capacity for visitors to The Ginstitute.

“Our roots have played an important factor in the success of the brand and it’s incredibly exciting to be able to grow and continue producing in Notting Hill,” said Ged Feltham, co-founder of Portobello Road Gin.

“The Distillery will prove to be a mecca for all fans of the drink and will, we believe, become the finest address in gin.”

Last year Portobello Road Gin created the first ever London Dry Gin made with British asparagus as part of its Portobello Road Gin – Director’s Cut –  an annual project whereby a unique gin is produced using botanicals hand-sourced by the team.
