Uncorked: Thibault Gagey
Born in Paris in 1984, Thibault Gagey is the son of Pierre-Henry Gagey, president of Maison Louis Jadot. After working in a number of positions in the wine trade in China, New Zealand and the US, Thibault returned to Burgundy at the beginning of 2014 to work for Louis Jadot as deputy general manager alongside his father and the Jadot team. He is also taking care of Jadot’s new project in Oregon, which has just produced its first wine, called Résonance. Thibault has a Master’s Degree in Management from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Reims in Champagne, France.

What vintage are you?
1984, not exactly the best vintage in Burgundy… In spite of that there are some nice wines, including some whites.
What bottle sparked your love of wine?
A bottle of Beaune Clos des Couchereaux 1904, I still remember it!
What would you be as a wine?
A Corton-Charlemagne.
Where are you happiest?
At home.
What’s your greatest vice?
Drinking too much maybe? As an excuse, it is part of my job…
Best advice you ever had?
Be positive.
Most overused word?
“You know what I mean”.
Your cellar’s underwater, which bottle would you dive in and save?
One of my old Rieslings from Alsace.
What’s the best and worst thing about the wine business?
Travelling.
What’s on your wine bucket list?
Visiting Piemonte.
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?
The Pink Floyd, Charles de Gaulle, Eric Tabarly and Sofia Coppola.
