Waitrose rolls out mobile scanning app
Waitrose is bringing mobile shopping in-store with the trial of a new app that allows customers to scan products in their baskets using their mobile phones.
Waitrose has launched a new mobile app based on their successful Quick Check scan service to ease checkout woes
The mobile self-scan app is used to scan product barcodes on products as they shop and pack, in a move designed to “ease customer’s checkout experience”.
It has been designed to work in tandem with Waitrose existing Quick Check service, the ‘scan as you shop’ handset service introduced more than ten years ago which enables customers to scan and pack their baskets as they shop in store, and pay at the checkout without the need to unpack their shopping.
The new mobile app is being trialed in three stores – Clapham Common, Meanwood and Milngavie outside Glasgow – ahead of a potential national roll out. It is open to myWaitrose customers, who are automatically registered for Quick Check, and is available for android and iphones.
Waitrose head of retail change Matt Clifton said the retailer was always looking at ways for technology to make our customers’ lives easier.
“The ease and choice of checkout options is becoming increasingly important to customers as the trend for shopping little and often continues to grow,” he said.
“Making Quick Check available to myWaitrose customers and exploring the opportunity for them to shop with us on their mobiles in-store means we continue to deliver that convenience.”
