Bordeaux Index rebrands to ‘BI’
Fine wine merchant Bordeaux Index has rebranded to the simpler ‘BI’ to better reflect its diverse range and expertise.
Founded in 1997, over the past five years the merchant has “diversified its range considerably” to the point that it was felt having “Bordeaux” in its title did not properly reflect the whole business.
Although Bordeaux still represents 60% of BI’s total sales and it has been recognised and awarded as a Bordeaux merchant, in a statement BI explained that since 2010 its Champagne sales had “tripled”, in the past three years sales of Italian wines had “boomed”, Spain was now its fastest growing wine category (up 30% this year alone) and sales of fine and rare spirits had “quadrupled” in the last two years.
Founder, Gary Boom, commented: “The rebranding reflects our evolution and the ever-expanding breadth of our offering. The fabulous wines from Italy, Spain, Champagne and the New World, not to mention the magnificent Ports, Madeiras and many more whose corks we have pulled this year, have provided us with some of the most eye-opening drinking experiences we have ever had.”
BI has also changed its descriptor to “Fine Wine & Spirits Merchant” rather than just “Fine Wine” to “better tell customers about the breadth of [our] offering”.
The merchant has also launched a new website which has many “new and improved features” giving customers access to online accounts, a live valuation and broking feature and an online trading platform, ‘LiveTrade’.
Boom added: “We are delighted to have sold a more diverse range of wines and spirits across the globe than ever before, both for consumption and investment. In our view the wine trade has never been more exciting and we are excited to continue playing a key role in its growth.”
