Pavie’s 2011 piques buyers’ interest
The 2011 vintage of St Emilion grand cru classé ‘A’, Pavie, has quietly been one of the most searched for wines on the Liv-ex exchange in the last month.
The release of Krug’s 2002 vintage has, understandably, caused the greatest stir in the market of late but Liv-ex reports that the second most searched for wine has been the Right Bank estate.
The vintage has no doubt been seen as a good entry point to the brand as it was, until recent activity, the cheapest Pavie on the secondary market.
Since July 2014 its price had hovered around £1,100 to £1,250 a case but last week it jumped up to £1,400 – a rise of 16.7%.
Liv-ex pointed out that as well as being one of the more affordable Pavie vintages on the market it has a solid 95+ score from Robert Parker who also called it one of the 2011 vintage’s “superstars”.
It is some positive news for Pavie which, until lately, looked as though its performance in the secondary market did not entirely warrant the increased prices it was asking for en primeur since its upgrade to grand cru classé ‘A’ in 2012.
Arguably one of Bordeaux finest specimen in this off-vintage.
