Bushmills to receive £30m expansion
Bushmills Irish Whiskey’s parent company Jose Cuervo is planning to spend £30 million on a new distillery facility for the brand that will “effectively double its capacity”.
The investment is expected to lead to the employment of 20 new staff to 150-strong team at the distillery based in Country Antrim, Northern Ireland.
There will be £3m of capital expenditure at Bushmills every year for the next 10 -15 years, the plans reveal.
A “world class” new tourist centre also forms part of the investment from Mexico-based Jose Cuervo.
The company, which is best-known for producing Jose Cuervo Tequila, puchased Bushmills from Diageo last year in a straight swap for its Don Julio brand.
Bushmills claims to be the oldest licensed distillery in the world, with distillation taking place at the site since 1608.
not even Bushmills claims to be distilling since 1608, and they are only the second oldest in Ireland.
It says ‘1608’ on the bottle and the company repeatedly says on its website and marketing literature that the Bushmills site has had a license to distill since 1608.
In 1608 a license was granted to Sir Thomas Phillipps to distill whiskey in county Antrim… not exclusively at a specif site. Old Bushmills Distillery was founded by Hugh Anderson in 1784. Look it up. The 1608 claim displayed on Bushmills bottles reflects poorly on the judgment and perhaps integrity of the company. Why not make it right now?
