Faiveley snaps up prized Musigny parcel
Erwan Faiveley of Domaine Faiveley has purchased a 0.10-hectare parcel within the grand cru vineyard of Musigny – one of Burgundy’s most prized sites.
As reported by Wine Spectator, the ambitious young Faiveley brought the precious land from the Dufouleur family last week for an undisclosed sum.
Faiveley already owns 0.03-hectares of Musigny grand cru vineyards, and with the new acquisition, annual production is expected to rise to 500 bottles a year.
One of the most prestigious grand crus in the Côte d’Or, the 10-hectare Musigny plot is split between 16 different owners, with Comte de Vogüé owning the lion’s share of the land.
It’s incredibly rare for Musigny vineyard land to become available, though the Dufouleur family are thought to have sold for succession reasons.
The Musigny deal takes Faiveley’s Burgundy holdings to 141 hectares, with Erwan Faiveley pushing for expansion since taking the helm in 2005.
