Chablis to be offered at Hospices sale
This year’s Hospices de Beaune auction will feature two barrels of Chablis, the first time wines from the appellation have been offered at the sale.
The two barrels of premier cru Côte de Léchet from Domaine Jean Marc Brocard will be on sale at the Christie’s hosted auction in Beaune this month, with the estate’s owner saying that Chablis’ absence from the historic sale was “something of an anomaly”.
Jean-Marc Brocard said: “It’s absolutely wonderful to see this splendid vineyard join the Hospices de Beaune. Our family felt that the absence of Chablis from this prestigious auction in the heart of Burgundy was something of an anomaly.
“The stature of Chablis around the world today is such that our appellation could no longer remain absent from what is a major event for all lovers of fine Burgundy”.
The 155th Hospices de Beaune auction will take place on 15 November. All proceeds go to charity and the co-hosts will be French actor Christopher Lambert and journalist and broadcaster Claire Chazal.
