Solaia 2012 released
Solaia is the latest Super Tuscan to release its 2012 vintage after Masseto last week.
Offered at £1,272 per dozen it is just below the average price for more recent vintages but is more expensive than the 2008, 2009 and 2011 with the latter two also having better scores from Antonio Galloni.
Furthermore, as Liv-ex points out, the 2010 is the same price but has a 98-point score compared to the 2012’s 94 and thus appears to offer better relative value.
The 2012s have generally been highly scored by Galloni and Suckling. The latter gave the Solaia 97-points while both used the word “finesse” when describing it while recommending giving it a few more years before collectors should even think of drinking it.
As mentioned, the 2012 Masseto was released last week with 99-points from Suckling although with no immediate prices as allocations were still being decided.
The progress of the Super Tuscans in the secondary market was recently examined by the drinks business here.
