Grant family celebrates 150 years at Glenfarclas
To celebrate 150 years of ownership of Glenfarclas, the fifth and sixth generations of the Grant family have launched a new Family Reserve bottling.
Named £511.19s.0d after the amount paid for the distillery by John Grant on 8 June 1865, the whisky is a non-chill filtered bottling at 43%, vatted from largely first fill Sherry butts spanning the 1970s to 2000s.
Each bottle will also come with a copy of the bill of sale.
The tasting note describes the spirit as: “Sweet and rich sherry, like a toffee syrup over a freshly toasted French baguette, the nose promises fresh fruit smothered in heather honey, ending almost like a sweet port.
“Then a dry yet sweet taste, a lovely balance of fruit, light nuttiness and milk chocolate develop, followed by a very palatable long and easy finish.”
Director of sales, George Grant, said the spirit was a testament to the continued independence of the distillery. He said: “The beauty of independence is that we have total control over the quality and character of our whisky, and with this control we can personally choose what we want the brand to represent.”
To celebrate the occasion even further, Geroge and his father John (the fifth and sixth generations of the family) filled 10 Sherry butts and 10 Sherry hogsheads to lay down for future generations.
George also announced recently that the 30 and 40-year-old expressions would be making a return “soon” after a brief absence.
