Originally posted on Chinese news site Thaizonghua, the photo seems to show a baby in a highchair swigging from a large bottle of beer that’s being offered to him by an unseen adult.
The toddler’s name is Tangtang and he is said to be 19 months old and living in Yubei District in Chongqing.
According to news source Shanghaiist, Tangtang’s father aged 31, told reporters that he had previously given Tangtang “a few drops” of beer at a family gathering and the baby appeared “to have gotten drunk.”
He followed on to say that he had continued to offer him “beers, white wines and red wines” and that beer “has become his new milk.”
Tangtang is even said to reach for a bottle whenever he sees it and apparently enjoys whatever his father gives him to drink.
The photo has sparked outrage across China with a senior nutritionist wading in and commenting to Thaizonghua, “Children are in the growth and development stage and drinking will cause damage to the brain, increase the burden on the heart and inflict the greatest damage to the liver.”
