Gary Lineker’s cellar raided by thieves

Football pundit, Gary Lineker, has revealed that builders stole a large amount of wine from his cellar during refurbishment work.

The wines were stolen from his Surrey home several years ago with the thieves only leaving one case behind.

Lineker told The Evening Standard that the wine was stored in an alarmed garage but while building was going on at the home the alarms were disabled one night in whatr he said was probably an “inside job”.

He added: “The whole lot was nicked. It must have been one of the builders. They wouldn’t even have understood the value.”

He claimed that most of the wine only cost “£15” a bottle but he has previously expressed a preference for Château Margaux and Lynch Bages so it’s possible many of the bottles were more valuable than he let on – or he has his more valuable collection elsewhere

He said he had been collecting wine since the 1980s and is not the only footballing personality with a taste for wine, former Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson, amassed a formidable collection of fine wine he sold part of for over £2 million a few years ago.
