World’s ‘most valuable’ collection of Mouton

A 153-bottle collection of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, believed to be the largest unified range in existence, is set for private sale by Hong Kong fine wine merchants L’Imperatrice.

Amassed by one private collector in Paris over a period of six years, the collection includes:

  • A vertical of 69 bottles from 1945-2011
  • A vertical of 36 double magnums from 1978-2011
  • 1 2000 Imperial
  • 1 2000 Nebuchadnezzar
  • 1 bottle of 1924
  • A vertical of 45 magnums from 1968-2010

Julien Froger, director of L’Imperatice commented: “We are thrilled to introduce this important wine pyramid to the world. Its rarity and the exceptional condition of the bottles make it an exquisite piece for collectors. The levels and appearance of the bottles are excellent and we rarely see a Nebuchadnezzar Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2000 on the market. We expect a lot of interest from people all over the world as the Chateau produced only eight of them!”

The bottles also feature the original artworks commissioned by Baron Philippe de Rothschild from 1924 and includes 1947 John Cocteau, 1958 Salvador Dali, 1969 Joan Miro and 1975 Andy Warhol.

The collection is currently housed in a tailor-made Chateau Mouton Rothschild wine cabinet made of sycamore and designed by Ludovic Avenel with the artists’ labels engraved on the top and front doors of the cabinet.

The range is offered for bidders in Hong Kong, any interested parties should contact L’Imperatice on +852 2850 5544 or alexia.imperatrice.com.hk.

A elderly neighbor grave me a bottle of Baron Philippe, Graves Sec White Bordeaux Wine 1975 she had in her basement. Two questions: Is it possibly still good to drink, and what if any thing is it worrh? In short, should I save it for a very special occasion or dump it? Thanks for taking my question.
