ICCWS calls for cutting edge research

With less than a year to go until England hosts the International Cool Climate Wine Symposium 2016, organisers are inviting industry experts to submit ideas for the various presentations and workshops.

Due to take place in Brighton from 26-28 May 2016, the event has already confirmed an array of guest speakers from around the world, but will also feature a series of tastings, debates and presentations covering the latest cool climate viticultural and vinification developments, as well as commercial market analysis.

With this framework in place, the ICCWS committee is now inviting 300-word abstracts based on original research, analysis and synthesis of ideas relevant to cool climate wine production by 3 July.

Among the specific areas of focus, whose full list is available online, are abstracts on emerging vineyard pests and diseases, managing phenolics in the vineyard, new technologies for optimising fruit quality and vineyard management, innovation in cool climate wine styles, the economics of wine production, and wine education and training.

Chris Foss, chairman of the ICCWS Programme Committee and head of Plumpton College Wine Department, explained: “We’re looking for new ideas presented in varied and innovative ways, so that the delegates will find the event interesting, valuable and enjoyable.”
