31 Days of Riesling approaching
Wines of Germany’s “31 Days of Riesling” campaign will be back again this year in wine bars and shops across the UK from 1 July.
The month celebration of German Riesling is part of the wider “Summer of Riesling” that Wines of Germany holds every year in key markets around the world.
The on- and off-trades are invited to take part and previous efforts to promote German Riesling have seen participants painting wine murals on the walls of their shops and restaurants and courting charges of public exposure by serving customers samples wearing nothing but promotional aprons.
Participating this year are Sager and Wilde, Bread Street Kitchen and Avery’s among others. The Harrow at Little Bedwyn scooped the on-trade prize last year for its social media campaign and food pairings while Vagabond Wines was named best retailer (for the murals not the nudity).
This year’s winners will win £1,000 towards new German wine listings and runner ups will get £500.
Wines of Germany’s managing director in the UK, Nicky Forrest, said: “Last year, 101 restaurants and retailers and 15,000 consumers from all over the country got involved in the 31 Days of German Riesling.
“It’s a lot of fun and consumers are always amazed by the versatility and food matching potential of the wines. This year we are seeing more Michelin restaurants getting involved and we have high hopes for a great Summer of Riesling.”
