Prince dines on pork belly and beer in Perth

Prince Harry refused to sit in a VIP area and split the bill while at a bar in Australia this week, proving himself to be a throughly down to earth royal.

The 30-year-old was spotted at The Stables Bar in Perth on Wednesday, but refused special treatment when offered a VIP area by restaurant owner Tim McLernon, who was given an hours notice of the visit.

As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, the Prince’s drink of choice was a bottle of Corona, followed by some pork belly and a dessert platter for two. Having split the bill at the end of the night, McLernon revealed that Prince Harry’s group left “quite a sizeable tip”.

Speaking to the paper, restaurant owner McLernon said: “He told me how much he loved the food and when he left I saw them in that very Australian way they got the bill, worked out everyone’s share. He pulled out his own money and threw it in the pot. He was a very nice guy, didn’t want to be fussed around and it was a pleasure to have him.”

“When he got there, we showed him those areas but he didn’t want a bar of that. He sort of said ‘nah, I’m not interested in private areas or being fussed over, I just want to sit with everyone else’ so he grabbed a table and sat down.”

Prince Harry is in Australia for the second part of his month-long secondment stint with the Australian Defence Force. He’s currently training with the Special Air Service Regiment and will also go to Sydney before leaving for an official tour of New Zealand on 9 May.
