Tommy Guns vodka settles lawsuit

The maker of Tommy Guns vodka has settled the lawsuit brought to court by Saeilo Enterprises, the company behind the infamous Thompson machine gun.

Details of the settlement have not yet been made available, after New York-based gunmakers Saeilo Enterprises sued Alphonse Capone Enterprises, creators of the Tommy Guns vodka brand, for copyright infringement.

The lawsuit was filed in an Illinois court last March, when Saeilo alleged that the vodka was profiting from its association with the Thompson machine gun – better known as the Tommy gun – made famous during Prohibition-era gang warfare in the US.

Saeilo had sought a permanent injunction barring Tommy Guns Vodka from store shelves, as well as an award of damages, attorneys’ fees and costs, according to Law 360. 

The complaint against Alphonse Capone Enterprises listed claims of infringement, dilution, false designation of origin and trade dress infringement under the federal Lanham Act, along with similar state and common law infringements, the US law site reports.
