US frat boys rapped for 2,000-can beer haul
Four underage students had their spring break celebrations cut short after their cargo of nearly 2,000 cans of beer was confiscated by Alabama state police.
The students – fraternity members at Louisiana State – were pulled over on the interstate as they passed through Mobile County hauling a trailer filled with 1,900 beers, ten litres of spirits and a 5-litre box of wine.
Among the confiscated alcoholic drinks were 106 18-packs of Natural Light beer, five 12-packs of Corona beer and five litres of Franzia boxed wine. Several bottles of Tequila, vodka, whiskey and rum also were collected.
The students told police – who initially stopped them for having an expired tag on their trailer – that they were travelling to Gulf Shores in Alabama to meet “a larger group of people for the week of spring break,” reports The Advocate.
One of the student’s fathers is quoted saying, “I’m pretty shocked and confused,” adding that he hadn’t heard of the incident until he was contacted by a reporter. “I’m really surprised,” he said.
