Toddler mistakenly served sangria
A two-year-old was rushed to hospital after a restaurant accidentally served her sangria instead of cranberry juice.
The Gilliam family were celebrating a birthday at a Texas Roadhouse on Friday in Asheville, North Carolina, when the incident occurred, as reported by WSOCTV.com.
After being served what they thought was a fruit juice, their two-year-old daughter Gabriella complained that the drinks tasted “funny”. Her mother Tiffany tasted the drink and quickly realised it was sangria.
“I had to rub her belly the whole night and she slept with us because I was scared that she might not wake up,” she said. “That she’d choke on her throw up and not wake up. It was the most horrible feeling ever.”
Of the effect it had on her daughter Mrs Gilliam said: “She was staggering and she was kissing everything”.
The toddler was taken to the hospital, accompanied by the restaurant’s manager, where doctors diagnosed her with accidental alcohol ingestion.
A spokesperson for the restaurant told WSOCTV.com, said: “Unfortunately, we did accidentally serve sangria to the child. We are 100% in error and our employees have owned up to that fact. Our processes and procedures are designed to prevent this from happening, but unfortunately human error occurred.”
The restaurant said it was taking this incident as an opportunity to “look for ways to make our systems even better in order to prevent this from ever happening again.”
